Louis Hernandez, Jr.
Chairman of the Board and CEO of Open
Solutions Inc.
Louis Hernandez, Jr. is the chairman of
the board and chief executive officer of
Open Solutions Inc., a leading provider
of enterprise-wide enabling technologies
for financial institutions. Open
Solutions is a rapidly growing software
and solutions company headquartered in
Glastonbury, Connecticut, with a global
client base of more than 5,000 clients,
approximately 2,100 employees and
revenues in 2007 of approximately $470
million. Open Solutions has been named
one of the 25 Fastest-Growing Technology
Companies of 2006 by Forbes Magazine and
in 2007 was ranked number two on the
Bank Technology News 10 Technology
Companies To Watch report. It has been
named to the Connecticut Technology
Council's Fast 50; the Deloitte & Touche
Technology Fast 500; and American Banker
and Financial Insights' FinTech 100.
These organizations recognize leading
companies in the technology sector for
outstanding sales growth.
In addition, Mr. Hernandez has held
senior positions at several high
technology companies, and began his
career at Price Waterhouse LLP.
Mr. Hernandez is a recognized technology
executive having been appointed by the
Governor of Connecticut to be vice chair
of the Governor's Council on Economic
Competitiveness and Technology as a
representative of business with
expertise in information technology. Mr.
Hernandez chaired the Technology
Transfer Advisory board set up by the
Governor's Council to develop strategies
for technology transfer and
commercialization in the state, is the
past chairman of the Connecticut
Technology Council and the former vice
chair of the Commission for Educational
Technology, where he recently completed
a three-year appointment issued by the
Governor. He also serves on the board of
directors of HSBC Finance Corporation,
the consumer lending arm of one of the
largest banking and financial services
organizations in the world, HSBC
Holdings and Avid Technology Inc., a
publicly-traded company and worldwide
leader in providing tools for film,
video, audio, 3D animation, gaming and
broadcast professionals.
Mr. Hernandez has also just recently
published his book, "Too Small to Fail,"
in which he suggests that now is the
perfect time for the leaders of today's
community-based financial institutions
to seize the day and lead the financial
services industry back to the center of
economic vitality and drive economic
growth - one community at a time.
Mr. Hernandez is also active in several
community issues, including serving as a
member of the board of trustees of the
Connecticut Center for Science &
Exploration, a statewide cultural,
entertainment and educational
institution; a board member of the
Connecticut Children's Medical Center,
an organization dedicated to improving
the physical and emotional health of
children; and a corporator of the
Eastern Connecticut Health Network Inc.
(ECHN), a not-for-profit hospital and
health system network. In 2008, the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation named Mr.
Hernandez the 2008 Community Leader of
the Year in honor of all his
contributions to the community.
Mr. Hernandez is also very involved in
all levels of soccer. Along with playing
in his own league, he is a licensed
premier and travel club youth soccer
coach. He is also a part-owner of the
Boston Breakers, a women's professional
soccer team. The Boston Breakers are one
of the eight teams in the newly reformed
Women's United Soccer Association.
Mr. Hernandez is a past recipient of the
Hartford Business Journal's Business
Person of the Year and has been named
one of the Hartford Business Journal's
top executives under 40 and was an Ernst
& Young New England Entrepreneur of the
Year finalist. He was also named one of
the financial service industry's five
most innovative leaders, a 2007
Innovator of the Year and inducted into
the newly formed Leadership Hall of Fame
by Bank Technology News, a national
financial services publication.
Mr. Hernandez has had several articles
published by leading journals and speaks
regularly on the topics of technology,
economics, strategic planning and
globalization.
